Major breakthrough in garden cover material by Garland Products

Glee sees launch of new cover range made from ‘fabric of the future’

A new range of garden covers using a material described as the ‘fabric of the future’ is being launched by Garland Products at Glee 2019 (Stand Hall 8 D30-E31).  The material is the result of two years development by the company and is worlds ahead of traditional polyester used by other garden cover suppliers.  In addition, the company will be making over 30 other product launches at the show with the emphasis on environmentally friendly products and GYO.

The new garden cover material has the look of premium polyester covers that are popular with consumers but has none of the downsides. The new, advanced fabric takes its properties from Garland’s ever popular Super Tough Range. The material has major advantages over traditional polyester covers as it is already 100% waterproof, so requires none of the traditional coatings to make it water tight.  It is also naturally UV stable with virtually zero fading over its 7-year guarantee period. The fabric is also almost untearable and with all the seams being sonic welded rather than sewn, there is no need to use waterproof taping in an attempt to make the seams watertight. This means each cover is effectively one piece of material and completely impervious to sunlight and water. Commenting on the new cover material Garland’s sales director Mark Dedman said “The development of this new material has been a very exciting project for us. Using my 20 years of experience in selling covers and working with materials, we have finally been able to develop a material that is naturally perfect for outdoor use. This is a culmination of years of research and development looking for the next cover material.  There has been a huge investment in machinery for the new manufacturing process and the patented process is exclusive to Garland/Worth Gardening.  It will ensure we remain at the forefront of any potential competition for the foreseeable future.”

Other new products

Garland / Worth Gardening will be launching over 35 other new products at Glee.  Recognising the needs of retailers and the end user, many of the new offerings are a result of the company’s heavy investment in the responsible use of plastic materials.  Utilising 100 per cent recycled and recyclable plastic, Garland’s professional propagation range has been extended  with the addition of new gravel trays, mini seed and cutting trays, a mini vegetable tray and replacement pots.

On show will be a complete new range of 12 professional growing pots.  The range starts with pots in sizes from 9cm to 23cm, all produced from 100 per cent recycled and recyclable plastic.  There is also a new range of bio-based growing pots made from 100 per cent sustainable natural food-based ingredients, so are completely plastic free.  The pots are fully biodegradable and are 100 per cent industrially compostable in accordance with EN 13432.

Continuing the growing theme, a new mini seed tray and premium 24-cell inserts have been added to the Premium Propagation range.  The new items avoid the single use of plastics, and carry a 10 year guarantee.  Alongside the cell inserts is a seed starter set that comprises a full propagator set with tray, cell inserts and lid, again with a full 10 year guarantee.

Garland has also responded to requests from stockists with the addition of an XL high-dome heated propagator.  The new item fills a necessary gap between Garland’s popular Fab 4, One-top and Super 7 propagators and the company’s high-end Big 3 and 4 Top versions.

A coir bean string that is ideal for aiding the growing of runner beans and sweet peas has been added to the company’s twines and ties range of products.

Other products that will be on show for the first time at Glee will be straining eye bolts, barrel straining bolts, ceiling hooks, single and double tool hooks and a replacement hanging basket chain.  All of the new items are presented in eye-catching fully-recyclable oyster packs.  A new universal diverter kit and a long linking kit for Garland’s water butt range complete the new offerings at Glee 2019.

Commenting on the launch, Garland/Worth Gardening’s sales director Mark Dedman said; “Garland is committed to expanding its wide range of products and to achieve this aim in a way that recognises the need to protect the environment.  Our new products for the 2020 season have been introduced to satisfy specific needs in the market and are testimony to our responsible use of plastic materials.  The response from customers to our Glee launches last year, particularly the Super Tough Rattan Cover range and the Garden Basics range, have been excellent and we look forward to an equally successfully Glee 2019”. Garland/Worth Gardening’s full sales and marketing team will be on the stand at Glee 2019 together with the company’s sales agents representing the whole of the UK and Ireland.

The Garland Products Group specialises in the manufacture of plastic injection moulded products and is one of the fastest growing suppliers to the garden industry.  The products available to both keen and hobby gardeners have been designed through the company’s own experience as keen gardeners.
